The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governornorship ticket crisis between Olorogun David Edevbie and Rt.Hon sheriff Oborevwori has been creating tensions in the party and in Urhobo nation.
Urhobo Youth Vision world wide also known as Erhuvwu’R’Urhobo, a highly respected Urhobo socio cultural organization has called for unity and a peaceful resolution of the current legal battle over who flies the party Guber ticket in 2023, which is also causing division within the party and Urhobos that are in politics.
National President of Erhuvwu’R’Urhobo, Dr Joel Edjutememuh (JP) made this passionate appeal while speaking to journalists recently after the case in an Appeal Court was adjourned till 19th of August for hearing.
Dr Edjutememuh who frowned at the extent the matter has gone to, from Federal High Court to an Appeal Court, and probably to the Supreme Court if, said that settling out of court will do the Delta State PDP more good, stressed that court case judgement will caused more divisions to the party and Urhobos in general.
Erhuvwu’R’Urhobo president who speaks on the ground of the unity and peace of the Urhobos irrespective of political parties or status said that the issue of who fly the party Guber ticket shouldn’t have gone to the court especially after the party primaries when Olorogun David Edevbie and RT Hon Sheriff Oborevwori are both Urhobo sons and leaders of the PDP and are also respected traditional Chiefs of Urhobo kingdoms.
While condemning the current legal battle between them in the party PDP, Dr Joel Edjutememuh (JP) said that the State leaders, stakeholders including the Urhobo leaders should have resolved it amicably than this court case which is a kind of bringing dirty names to Urhobo nation and off cause political leaders to the mud.
He further used the medium to appeal to the Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi A. Okowa and Delta State former executive governor chief James Onanefe Ibori of the PDP and the Delta Central leaders to find every possible means to withdraw the matter from court and settled it amicably saying that with the matter in the court does not and will not portray good image of Urhobos and party Leadership
“At this time that PDP Governor is zoned to Urhobo of the Delta Central district, we are not supposed ridicule ourselves or taking the issue of certificates descripancy to the level of court.
“Why is it now that the People’s Democratic Party rotates its governorship candidate to Delta Central that we Urhobos in the party would be fighting? the situation whereby both chief Edevbie and chief Oborevwori as two Urhobo brothers could not resolved their issue amicably is a shameful thing to Urhobo nation”, Dr Joel Edjutememuh stated.
He added that settling the matter out of court will enable the party to be more united and remained stronger ahead of the next year general elections, saying that waiting for the final outcome of the court judgement can leads to forever divisions within the party because whoever lost out of the court judgement may not have good faith to work for or support the other.
